Data at the service of urban health and safety through a gender lens

What does this data space consist of?

A data space that allows analysis of how urban design impacts the health, mobility and safety of city dwellers from a gender perspective.

Its objective is to offer a tool for measurement, traceability and continuous improvement to build safer, more sustainable and equitable territories.

The model is based on the Woman Friendly Destination (WFD) certification standard, which promotes more inclusive, accessible and safe tourist destinations for all. It also draws on the mODS territorial sustainability scheme, which ensures consistency in urban planning and data management.

A secure space, certified and aligned with national standards

Kiwa guarantees the Data Space by validating that it complies with security, quality and legal compliance standards.

Specifically, they are developed in accordance with the UNE 0087:2025 specification, which defines and characterises data spaces in Spain. In addition, at Kiwa we actively participate as vocal members and observers in the UNE, which allows us to guarantee that our spaces are aligned with the best practices and criteria recognised in the sector.

What is the data space used for?

This space analyses how territory and urban decisions influence health, sustainability and safety from a gender perspective. Its objective: to improve quality of life and build more inclusive, safe and sustainable territories.

By integrating data with a gender perspective, it enables the detection of inequalities, the identification of priorities and more effective action.

It is based on the Woman Friendly Destination (WFD) standard and the mODS scheme, also integrating the dimension of tourism to create more equitable and attractive cities for both residents and visitors.

Strengthening

Strengthen equality plans and safety policies with real data, to move towards smart, sustainable, healthy and safe city models.

Promote fairer urban policies with evidence that integrates health, gender and sustainability.

How this translates into concrete actions

Ejemplo de un caso de uso

A city council connects its urban data (mobility, use of space, lighting, emergencies, perception surveys) to the data space to measure inequalities and risks with a gender focus.

This allows it to prioritise investments, evaluate public policies and advance in the Woman Friendly Destination certification.

Organisations committed to territorial transformation

Who is it aimed at?

  • Town councils and county councils.
  • Areas of equality, urban planning, health and public safety.
  • Networks of cities and territories.
  • Entities promoting gender equality in the territory.
